Most AI writing tools get twitchy the second a story turns sexy. DreamGen goes the other way and says so in plain words: “We don’t filter your stories, and we don’t censor your creativity.” It’s a story writer and a role-play app in one account, run by Rozum AG, a Swiss company with an address in Zug. It’s made for people who like to steer. You set the stage and tell everyone what to do; the AI does the typing.
Fair warning: this first look is based on what DreamGen publishes as of October 2026 (pricing, docs, terms and privacy FAQ), not on testing of my own, so there are no scores here.
What DreamGen is
Role-play mode is a chat with one character or a whole crowd of them, and the scenario behind it can carry its own places, artefacts and lore. DreamGen’s word for you here is director, which feels right. Story mode is more like a manuscript. You type a bit, hit Continue, and it writes on from there. Rewind gives you another take, and instruction blocks tell the AI what should happen next. There’s even a choose-your-own-adventure option.
Both run on scenarios, which DreamGen also calls the story bible: plot, setting, writing style, characters, locations, objects, an opening scene, sample exchanges. Most of it’s optional. Start from a public scenario, clone one, let the Scenario Wizard draft one with you, or write your own. It’s browser-based; I found no App Store or Google Play version linked.
DreamGen and NSFW: what’s allowed
The homepage blurb promises “no rules, no restrictions, just your imagination.” The terms are the real rulebook, and they’re short. You must be 18 and an adult under your local law. Anything illegal in the US, in the EFTA states or where you live is out, and so is anything sexual involving someone who isn’t an adult, fictional characters included. Automated systems enforce that, private stories too.
The app itself looks deliberately plain, a “neutral, professional interface” in DreamGen’s words. Your story can be filthy while the screen looks like a writing tool. Handy on a train.
Credits, tokens and models, quickly
This is the bit that takes a minute. Every plan, free included, can use all the current models; the plan mostly decides what they cost. Whatever isn’t unlimited for you spends credits, from a monthly allowance plus a small daily top-up that kicks in once that’s gone. Neither rolls over.
Then there’s the context window, how much of your story the AI can see at once. DreamGen’s rule of thumb: 1,000 tokens is about 750 words, 30,000 is roughly a 100-page book. Free gets 4,000 tokens, Starter 5,000, Advanced 15,000 and Pro 30,000. In a long role-play, that’s the difference between a partner who remembers last night and one who doesn’t.
Models change; in October 2026 the basic one was Gemma 4 26B, with GLM 5.2, GLM 4.7 and Gemma 4 31B as premium and third-party extras like DeepSeek V4 Pro on credits. There’s an image generator too, and pictures cost credits on every plan.
DreamGen pricing in 2026
Prices as the pricing page showed them in US dollars in October 2026, billed monthly. The odd cents are DreamGen’s, not my typos, and your checkout may differ, so look before you pay.
| Plan | Per month | First month | Context | Credits | Unlimited use |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | Nothing | Nothing | 4,000 tokens | 200 a month + 25 a day | None |
| Starter | $7.83 | $6.26 | 5,000 tokens | 375 a month + 45 a day | None |
| Advanced | $19.35 | $15.48 | 15,000 tokens | 2,250 a month + 75 a day | Basic model |
| Pro | $48.30 | $33.81 | 30,000 tokens | 2,250 a month + 75 a day | Basic and premium models |
The first-month discounts are for first purchases only. Pro also gets 20% off credit packs, which cost $5.39 for 750 credits, $18.29 for 3,000 and $51.79 for 9,000. Packs are for subscribers only and get spent after your plan’s credits, but at least they don’t reset.
Which plan? Starter suits light use, since it pays credits for everything. Advanced is where unlimited writing starts, on the basic model, and Pro takes the meter off the premium models too.
The free plan
DreamGen calls it a “generous free tier, no strings attached,” and it is a real one, with every current model and the credits in the table above. The catches are the short 4,000-token memory and no credit packs. Run dry and you wait for the reset, or subscribe.
Money, refunds and privacy
Cancel whenever you like under Account > Billing; you keep what you paid for until the month runs out. Upgrade mid-month and you pay the prorated difference on the spot. Downgrade and the difference sits on your account as credit. It doesn’t go back to your card.
Refunds come in two voices. The pricing FAQ offers prorated refunds by email, weighing days left, credits used and any earlier refunds, mostly processed within 2 business days. The terms say purchases are final unless the law says otherwise or DreamGen decides to refund. I’d ask early.
Privacy gets a gold star from me. No training on your private stories or role-plays unless you opt in, and the opt-in starts switched off. Nobody routinely reads your private stuff, though the automated moderation does scan it. Delete your account and the data leaves the active systems, typically within 35 days, though backups linger a little longer. Disputes go to Swiss law and arbitration in Zurich.
What to watch out for
- The credit system needs a few minutes of reading before you pick a plan.
- First-month prices aren’t what you pay from month two.
- Credit packs are for subscribers only.
- DreamGen’s blog ranks DreamGen first in its own roundup of NSFW writing tools. Read its comparisons as marketing.
Who DreamGen is for
People who like building a world and then bossing it around. Set up a cast, write the opening scene yourself, nudge every chapter: that’s the DreamGen way. If you only want a flirty character to text, a companion app is quicker, and you’ll skip the credit maths.
DreamGen alternatives
Erota is for explicit stories with less setup. You pick the acts, partners, point of view and style, and it can read the result aloud. There’s a Novel Studio and a role-play chat too. It’s $9.90 a month to start, a bit less if you commit to a quarter or a year, and there’s a free 7-day trial.
Kindroid is the pick if one companion matters more than plot. It explicitly allows NSFW and erotic role-play, does live avatar video calls and costs $13.99 a month on the web. It dropped its free tier on 1 October 2026, which makes DreamGen’s free plan look even better.
More picks are in our AI erotic story generators ranking.
Verdict
DreamGen is a writing tool that happens to be unfiltered, not a porn app with a text box, and I mean that as a compliment. It says plainly it won’t censor your stories, scenarios give you real control over long role-plays, and the privacy answers are the right way round. The credits are fiddly and renewals cost more than the first month, but the free plan is the real thing. Start there, and pay when the 4,000-token memory starts to pinch.
